Dear child_support_truth,
I couldn't have summarised it better myself. Congratulations on setting up this blog.
My personal story is so heart breaking I don't know where to begin. I'll think about how to summarise it and post it later. The important point is that my story is just one of thousands of similar cases. There are many thousands of children that this system is failing.
It is not a child support system it is a child tax. The system we have in NZ has nothing to do with supporting children. It is a tax plain and simple.
In addition it is possibly the most failed tax system NZ has ever seen. It fails on every level.
Regards,
D.

I am a liable parent, I do not wish to go on govt benefit and I want to contirbute to this country, my ex does not allow me to see my child and yet gets child support, she prefers not to work, I spoke to IRD to consider my expenses as I am trying to start a new life, but it seesm to fall on deaf ears. They IRD tells me that they do not resolve family disputes, then why do they collect the money,First chance should be given to the parents to share all responsibilties than if there are disagreements then the family court can decide on how much needs to be paid.During this process both parents will have equal responsibilties and play very important role in the child's life. IRD formula is not flexible, as not one size fits all. Child Support just creates a barrier and does not at all works out in the best interst of the child.
Can IRD explain why "working for families tax credit is paid until age of 18 and child support is paid until age of 19"
for working for families, govt has made a decision that a child become independent at the age of 18 for this purpose onl, because it is the crown's money...........
and for child support the age when a child becomes independent is 19 because this is not their money
Australia has age limit of 18 years
To all so called liable parents if you do earn less than the amount assessed and you do not estimate THEN IRD will not square up at the end of the year...IRD can square up for Income tax purposes BUT not for child support until you estimate......shame
It pays not to work hard so don't bother...........
I am a liable parent and this new name has been given to me by IRD,I received my assessment and with so much hope completed all my admin review papers, only to be told by yet another female officer during the interview where I was explaining my situation that I am a hard working parent, with a new family and the assessed amount is too much, infact more than the cost of raising a child, but this admin review officer told me bluntly that "you don't try to tell me to change the law" each time I spoke, I just collected all my documents and left the IRD building. NEVER again in future will I ever attend an admin review. I will leave my job and go on benefits, believe me this is worth trying, and I will encourge my partner too to join me,Its really worth it.
Although IRD says that admin review is independent person , I tell you admin review officers are animals in the IRD skin
I do not know when will justice prevail.
I had always wanted shared care of my child, but it was and it is and will always be a battle in the world {court}of women
IRD should promote shared care if an application is made for child support, believe me this will never be for wrong reasons and how could it be
I have my 16yo daughter half the time and pay for over half of her yearly general living costs and extra-curricular activities.
I have just been assessed by IRD to pay her mother $250 per week - even when she's at my place.
Her mother is wealthy but chooses not to work very hard but rather take the money from the govt to support herself and new family.
NZ Child Support laws are severely stressing families and punishing people who work hard to really provide for their kids. At the same time it rewards those who choose not to work hard. So basically, I pay her mother 10k per year completely over and above all the money I already spend. I am a soft target for the govt to tax and they refuse to look at the bigger, unjust issue as it would threaten their corrupt revenue gathering.
Shame on you govt.
